Job description

We’re looking for a highly skilled and resourceful IT Systems Administrator/Engineer to join our exceptional team here at Fetch.AI. This role will be based in our Cambridge office, supporting Linux servers, network infrastructure, cloud computing, maintaining and upgrading software, automating processes, cybersecurity and desktop support in a mixed environment (Mac, Ubuntu and Windows) for our inhouse development team.

You will be working alongside our IT Manager and Development Team in this rapidly expanding and exciting start-up company. Designing/implementing/monitoring/maintaining our server and network systems. There are many challenges ahead including creating a large distributed network and high-performance computing environment for our machine learning teams.

Our ideal candidate will be calm under pressure, good attention to detail, enthusiastic when faced with new challenges. You will enjoy working in a fast paced, changeable environment and be a reliable problem solver.

Responsibilities

You are an expert in offering solutions and a safe pair of hands when dealing with data and security issues. Additional key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing new systems
  • Monitoring and maintaining our servers and network
  • Looking to achieve smooth operations with high-reliability
  • Managing data, databases, backups and restores
  • Implementing and maintaining disaster recovery systems and procedures
  • Ensuring the security of servers and network systems
  • Desktop support for inhouse development team
  • Managing software and licensing
  • Good troubleshooting skills and able to see issues through from the initial report of a problem to resolution
  • Friendly, can-do attitude

Skills and experience

  • Strong Linux server skills
  • Solid networking skills (Routing/Switching/Firewalls/VPN)
  • Experienced with virtualisation and cloud computing (Google Cloud or AWS)
  • Good hardware skills to implement and maintain servers/storage arrays/networking equipment.
  • Hands-on, professional support skills to effectively help colleagues with technical issues.
  • Scripting skills to automate processes

Preferred experience

  • Degree in Computer Science or related subject. Equivalent experience and professional qualifications also desirable.
  • Distributed networking/global networks
  • InfiniBand
  • Batch-queuing system like Grid Engine
